PROGRAMME
The Cultural and Artistic Society Stjepan Radić takes special pride in preserving authentic Konavle dances and songs that have been passed down through centuries, with only necessary and carefully considered interventions.
Dance has always played an important social role in Konavle — serving as an opportunity for meeting and bonding, as well as a strong expression of community and devotion to tradition.
Dance
The society performs dances such as Potkolo, Poskočica, Marica, Čičak, Denči, Mazurka, and Cigančica, which belong to two Croatian ethnocoreological regions: the Dinaric and the Adriatic. A special place among them is held by Potkolo, the oldest Konavle dance performed in an open circle, while the remaining dances are of later origin and are performed in pairs.

All dances are accompanied by authentic traditional music, using instruments such as the mijeh and the lijerica, which create the distinctive soundscape for the dancers.
The dance programme also includes traditional songs, particularly wedding chants of strong emotional value. Among them stands out the Wedding Song, sung at the moment when the bride leaves her parental home. Though often tinged with melancholy, these songs preserve memories of customs and moments of great importance to the community. Harvest songs are also performed, recalling demanding times shaped by shared effort and solidarity.
For enthusiasts of vocal and instrumental music, KUD Stjepan Radić also offers independent performances by its performing sections, such as the mixed klapa and the mandolin orchestra.
In addition, a full-length evening concert can be organised, bringing together dance, vocal, and instrumental performances and guiding the audience on a musical journey through the heritage of the Dubrovnik region, Dalmatia, and Konavle.
Music
The vocal and instrumental programme of KUD Stjepan Radić presents the richness of the musical heritage of the Dubrovnik region, Dalmatia, and Konavle. From the mandolin orchestra, which performs compositions from the Dubrovnik area, to the vocal sections that nurture traditional chants and Dalmatian songs, the programme offers audiences a complete and authentic musical experience.

Choral, klapa, and folk singing, combined with traditional instruments such as the lijerica, mijeh, and mandolin, bring to life the customs and musical identity of the region, delivering interpretations of heritage passed down from generation to generation.
The mixed klapa of KUD Stjepan Radić performs traditional Dalmatian songs and chants characteristic of the Dubrovnik area, interpreting them in keeping with the source and spirit of klapa singing. Through harmonious arrangements and emotionally expressive performances, the klapa conveys the strength and beauty of this musical form. Its appearances are both rich and intimate, and through continuous activity at concerts and public events, the klapa actively contributes to the preservation of the klapa tradition and the musical heritage of southern Croatia.

Izvorni plesovi i napjevi Konavala
Društvo izvodi plesove poput „Potkola“, „Poskočice“, „Marice“, „Čička“, „Denči“, „Mazurke“, i „Cigančice“, koji pripadaju dvama etnokoreološkim područjima Hrvatske: dinarskom i jadranskom.
Mandolinska sekcija i mješovita klapa
Vokalno-instrumentalni program KUD-a „Stjepan Radić“ donosi bogatstvo dubrovačke, dalmatinske i konavoske glazbene tradicije.
